the it factor

first air: 1/20/02

Have I mentioned how much I love this show? Ok, well here's what went-down this week:

Jimmy

Jimmy is awesome. He's this chubby character-actor guy who is just so funny. He's in the ensemble of The Full Monty on Broadway, which is really cool. But he auditioned for the tv show Ed this week. He (and I) thought he had the part in the bag, but turns out they wanted somebody fatter than him. Fatter? Gheesh.

Daisy Daisy is going to voice lessons once a week with this old lady in her apartment full of loud, yappy dogs. Poor Daisy can't find a gig anywhere. But guess what… I've seen her on tv! She's in that American Cancer Society ad as the pregnant girl who writes with lipstick on the car window. You know which one I mean, right?

Queen EstherQueen Esther. I've never really like her from episode one. I just think she has an attitude I don't like. Well, she's trying to do her own one-woman show. She used to do one a couple of years ago. Personally, she's not that interesting to me, and her show doesn't even look any good. Sorry.

PJPJ is in The Donkey Show over on the Westside. He's kind of cute. And he's always looked familiar to me, but I still can't place him. We just saw him rehearsing and getting into his glittery makeup, but not much else. Except his agent said his headshots don't match him. Which I agree with. His headshots are all studly-man looking, but PJ himself is this really effeminate guy who kind of swishes when he walks. I think he needs new headshots.

GodfreyGodfrey is funny. He's starting to grow on me more. I'm not a huge fan of stand-up comedy, but he's pretty funny at his auditions. And this guy has a lot of auditions! He does a lot of voice over auditioning. Cool stuff too. Like an AT&T commercial and animated frog… how fun! But he keeps saying that he doesn't get a lot of work because he's black. But hello, he's gotten more auditions than almost anyone else on the show!

Michaela

Michaela is really pretty. She's moving to LA because things are just too "easy" here in NYC… since she's "always working". Boo-hoo! So she wants a 'challenge' in LA. So she gets new headshots taken. They look really awesome. And her mom comes to help her pack. She looks and acts just like her, its' really funny. So I guess the cameras will follow her in LA… right?

NathanNathan is a hottie. But I'm not thrilled with his kind of "whatever" attitude. He says he got an agent with hardly any effort at all. And now that he's auditioned so many times in NY and the part has been cast out of LA, he's decided to visit there for a week to go on some "real" auditions. Is it me or is that kind of a rude thing to say? Well, the cameras followed him there so we'll see…

first air: 1/13/02

Hello, this show is SOOO addictive! I love it, it's amazing. And each Sunday, they air 2 30-minute eps back to back, to you get a whole hour of fun! I just love watching these wannabe actors audition for roles and in some cases, not audition for roles. It's just so fascinating. Ok, maybe more to me than some, because I would love to act, so I also find it sorta helpful in that respect. Anyhoo, this week, my fave girl MirandaMiranda, had such a MAJOR letdown! She had booked this one-line gig on Third Watch and she was waiting every day to hear from her manager when the shoot would happen. And finally, he told her that her part was written out of the show! How sad! She was crying, and I felt horrible for her! But really, she shouldn't take it so personally. I mean, I'm sure they didn't re-write the script just to lose her one line because they didn't like her. It was only 1 line! Well… I don't know…do you think they would actually do that? It seems like a lot of work. Anyway, I felt so bad for her.

Katheryn

Then there's Katheryn. She's pretty, but looks more like a slutty model than and actress. She had a big audition for an O-Town video. Ha! She was supposed to show up looking "sexy and casual", so she wears this top that had her boobs like pouring out of it, and they looked really fake too. Plus, her bra was hanging out… tacky! Well, she didn't get the part.

Kevin Next was Kevin. He's a hottie! So hot, that he works as a model to finance his acting career. Nice, huh? And he's 24 and lives at home with his parents. And not to sound snotty, but he's probably one of the crappiest actors I've ever seen! He totally blew an audition for a Fox pilot. But he goes to acting classes, so maybe he'll get better.

Latarsha

Also, there's Latarsha. She has a manager and in this ep she signed with her first talent agency! That is so cool. She's a pretty black girl, really tall and skinny, but her manager told her she's too pretty for films. That she needs to get cornrows or something, to look tougher. I totally disagree. Hello, Halle Berry is a beautiful black woman and she's a huge friggin movie star! It'll be interesting to see if she listens to the advice.

Chelsea

And finally, there's Chelsea. She actually looks really familiar. Like she might've been in some movie or tv show I saw. She's got really stringy blond hair, and kind of looks like she'd playa great drug addicted ho. Hmmm. She sings in a band, and she actually has a good voice. She auditioned for a role in an independent film. She had to audition in a small room for 2 men, where she had to fake an orgasm scene. They asked her to do it a couple times. She got the part. Go figure. And then she went to see a psychic. This show rocks.

first air: 1/6/02

What a great idea for a TV show! This new Bravo series follows around 12 actors living in New York City as they go on auditions. It's so fascinating! Since it was shot last year, I am now completely obsessed with finding out if any of these people have become famous since then… but I don't think they have. Episode 1 was the audition process to get casted on to the show, and then the second ep (aired back to back), followed a few of the actors to various auditions. I love Miranda. She started her own cleaning service (Mighty Maids) to pay her bills while she auditions. It's awesome. Everytime we see her she's cleaning somebody else's apartment. Toilets and all. And then there's Daisy Eagan. She won a Tony Award at age 11 for her Broadway performance in The Secret Garden. Now she's auditioning for cookie commercials. Kind of humiliating, huh?. I mean, she's an accomplished stage actress and here it is 10 years later and she can't get squat. There's also Godfrey, a stand-up comic. He thought a Hasbro audition was too "above" him so he gave total attitude while waiting to audition. Hello, how ungrateful are you? You should be so happy to even be there. And since you do stand-up comedy for free every night, shouldn't you be jazzed to get ANY paying acting gig to begin with??? I'm not loving him yet. But Miranda landed a one-line part on Third Watch as a junkie in a coffee shop. How cool.
